WP6 IR-UWB Tx and Rx design, characterization and testing

WP6 addresses IR-UWB (Impulse Radio based Ultra WideBand) transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) design, characterization and testing, starting with the performance versus price analysis of up-to-date and emerging monolithic technologies solutions, including performance analysis of RF transceivers applicable in wireless sensor networks of new generation. Analysis and simulation of potential solutions for transmitters and transceivers will be subsequently conducted by using Cadence CAD tools, Virtuoso Schematic for schematic capture and Analog Environment (Spectre) for simulations, to be followed by layout design of selected RF topologies, their verification with Cadence Assura and Mentor Calibre tools and post-layout simulation. Finally, testing of the key transceiver features (Tx RF output power, Rx sensitivity, frequency resolution of on-chip frequency synthesizer, and quality of the narrow- and wide-band operations) using available E8364B VNA up to 50GHz, RF Wafer Probe Station PM5, a 63 GHz oscilloscope mainframe – DCA-J 86100C, network analyzer 8703B, Data generator serial BERT (13,2 Gb/s) N4901 B and others.
