General description

INESC Porto (Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering of Porto) is a private non-profit association, recognised as a Public Interest Institution and an Associate Laboratory that has been classified as ‘Excellent’. The Associate Laboratory has recently been named INESC TEC – INESC Technology and Science and includes INESC Porto (the coordinator), four Autonomous Units and a Privileged Partner from the University of Minho. Together the INESC TEC R&D Units have the critical mass necessary to cover the entire chain of research activities, technological development and technology transfer in a multidisciplinary environment. The aim is to improve Portuguese science internationally and to promote the competitiveness of the national business sector through socially relevant research with real potential for economic impact.

Role

INESC Porto is involved in the UWB (ultra wideband) system design and characterization.

Key competences and facilities

INESC TEC Associate Laboratory invests in Scientific Research and Technological Development, as well as in Advanced Training and Consulting, Technology Transfer and Launching of New Technology-based Companies. INESC TEC is a recognized Institution with activities in different areas of knowledge, among others: Telecommunications and Multimedia, Power Systems, Manufacturing Systems, Information and Computer Graphics Systems, Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems, Robotics and Intelligent Systems. INESC TEC has clean room facilities for Integrated Optics Microfabrication, communications research for broadband networks, mobile and wireless communications, and microelectronics, with well-equipped RF testing facilities.
